A Demonstration Plot for Regenerative Agriculture

Using the principles of Permaculture design and agroecology, we are turning the land surrounding Blackburn's Chapel into a vibrant demonstration of what churches can do to restore their land to beauty, fertility and productivity. In 2017, Blackburn's Chapel became the first church in the region to implement a permaculture design on its land, adding new several features to create an edible landscape and restore degraded soil.

Our first vegetable garden, newly named the St. Phocas Demonstration Garden, has provided visible examples of ecological gardening for several years, and continues to be a site of learning, service and hospitality.

We occasionally host workshops and service-learning opportunities on site to expand our educational reach beyond our internship and youth apprenticeship. See our Educational Events and Volunteer Days pages for more info.
